Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-24

If you have a bible please turn to Matthew 6 and we’re going to read verses 19-24 ...

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The word treasure means something of great worth or value, something that you hold precious in your life.  Jesus tells us to not lay up for ourselves treasures on earth but instead treasures in heaven.  He connects what we treasure in life to where our heart is.

What do you treasure in life?  How we spend our time, where our priorities are reveals the truth of where are treasure is and as Jesus said “so will your heart be also”.

God sent his only begotten son that all who believe on him shall not perish but have every lasting life.  If we have believed on Jesus as Lord — the kingdom of God and His righteousness is to be our treasure.  Christ is to be our first love.   Jesus then says a few verses down  “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

If we have believed on Jesus then he is our Lord and our Master.  The word Master means one having authority over another.  Christ has authority over our lives.  We have been bought and paid for by the blood of Christ and As believers, we are not our own but we belong body and soul to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Jesus said in John 8:34-36 “Whosoever commit sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abide not in the house for ever: but the Son abide ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”   Its for freedom that Christ has made us free.  Free from serving our old Sin Master to serve our new loving Master ...  bond- servants of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ye cannot serve God and mammon.  We cannot seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness AND seek after what the world seeks after.  Its one or the other.

Tomorrow we’ll read about how our loving heavenly father cares for us and we are free to take no thought to our life.
