We cannot believe on Jesus apart from His Word

John 5:24

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hear my word, and believe on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.  John 5:24

He that hear my word, and believe on him that sent me

• We cannot believe on Jesus apart from hearing his Word.  PERIOD.

• What did Jesus teach?  What did Jesus say?  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Jesus Words are the Word of God.  As Hebrews 1:2 says “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son”  Yes, God has spoken unto us by his Son.

• And we must first hear his Word to not only believe on Jesus but to believe on him who sent him.  What did God say through his Son?  He said:

• “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son”  The father sent his only begotten Son out of a heart of love.  The word “so” means:  then, subsequently” — God so loved the world that he.  That he what?  That he gave his only begotten Son.

◦ There’s a teaching that says “God just loves you soo much” as if there is an undetermined or unspecified amount of love.   That’s not the teaching of Christ.

• God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.  PERIOD.  This IS love.  Its not a feeling or an undetermined or varying amount of love — this IS LOVE.  Not that we loved God but that he loved us and gave his Son to be a Sin offering.  And that all who believe on Him should not perish but have ever lasting life.

He that hear my word, and believe on him that sent me, hath everlasting life.

• And what does it mean to have everlasting life?

• Jesus said “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” John 17:3  To know — to become intimately familiar with.  To walk with him and talk with him.  To personally know his love and grace and mercy and deliverance and forgiveness.  He leads you beside still waters, he makes you lie down in green pastures he restores your soul.  He gives you peace “my peace I give unto you” Jesus said.  And he tells you to cast all of your cares upon him because he cares for you.  He promises you freedom “If you continue in my word you will know the truth and the truth will make you free”.  He says I AM the way the truth and the life and if the Son therefore shall make you free you shall be free indeed.  Yes, to know the only true God and Jesus Christ who he hath sent — there is nothing greater.

And now we get to the final part of this verse: and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

• To those who hear his Word, Jesus words, the good news of the Gospel and believe on him who sent him, they (we)  have the promise of everlasting life AND shall not come into condemnation. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1

In Christ, our guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.  We have a new life in Christ

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hear my word, and believe on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
