This is love.

1 John 2-1-6

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that say, I know him, and keep not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keep his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abide in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. An advocate, the dictionary says one who pleads the cause of another.  We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  He is are advocate. He is your advocate.  He loves you. If God is for you, who can be against you?

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

• Propitiation means the act of gaining or regaining the favor or goodwill of someone or something : APPEASEMENT.

• SIN separated man from God.  The law was put into place temporarily until God sent his only begotten Son to be a propitiation for our sins.  He made a way when there was no other way, to be back in unity with him.  God provided the perfect lamb of God that take away the sin of the world.  The God–man relationship was restored through Christ.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

• Because of what God did through Christ we can know him.  We  can know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent — intimately, personally.

• We cannot know him apart from knowing his word, his teaching, his commandments.  And if we know him we will keep his commandments, we will keep his word out of a heart of love.    “But whoso keep his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected.

And hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abide in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.   We will walk as he walk as we abide in him and he in us.

The abiding life in Christ will bring forth fruit.  Jesus described this abiding in John 15 “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abide in me, and I in him, the same bring forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

If someone says they know God, they know Christ here is the evidence:  And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

The world talks of love  but the world doesn’t know love apart from Christ.   “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  1 John 4:10
