Therefore, take no thought for your life.

Matthew 6:25-30

Yesterday we looked at Matthew 6:19-24 where Jesus talks about no man can serve two Masters.  That either Mammon, accumulating wealth and possessions, is our Master or God is our Master.  Then he says “therefore”.  Therefore, in light of this truth, take no thought for your life.  So if you have a Bible, please open it to Matthew chapter 6 and we’re going to continue reading, starting with verse 25 ...

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feed them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Therefore, take no thought to your life.  Jesus refers to God as our Heavenly Father here.  And he says your heavenly takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, are you not much more valuable than they?   We are so valuable to God, that he sent his only begotten Son to be a sin offering and that all who believe on him might be saved.  Will this loving God not take care of his own?

Philippians 4:19 says “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”   As believers in Jesus Christ we have the freedom to take no thought to our life because we have the promise that our Heavenly Father will provide all that we need and so much more.

After this promise Jesus says, “oh ye of little faith”? If by faith we have believed on Jesus as Lord and he is our Savior, will we not have faith that he will provide of our need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  And as Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that come to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
