The Lord is my Shepherd

Yesterday, we looked at Revelation 2 and what the Spirit said to the church of Ephesus “  thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Today, I thought we could look at Psalm 23 written by David the Shepard boy who became Kind of Israel.    So please turn in your bibles to Psalm 23 ...

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul:  he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:  thou anoint my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:  and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

If you read about the life of David he had plenty of ups and downs, joys and sorrow, times of peace and prosperity and plenty of trials in his life.  Psalm 23 is really a love letter written to his Lord.  This isn’t describing a religion but a personal relationship between on man and his God.  The more we grow in know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent, the more we grow in faith and love and the hope that we have in Christ alone.  Look at the very first line of this psalm:  the Lord is my Shepard I shall not be in want.  If the Lord is our Shepard we shall not be in want of anything.  Why?  Because the Lord is our Shepard and he will provide all of my needs.  “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19  So if the Lord is my Shepard and he provides all of my needs and more, then truly, I shall not be in want of anything.
