The joy of Fellowship

1 John 1:1-4

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;  For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Who is John talking about here?  Jesus.  Jesus is the life that was manifested.  He is the way the truth and the life.  And when we believe on him we have fellowship with other believers and as John says here “truly our fellowship is with the father and with his Son Jesus Christ.” This isn’t describing a religion but an intimate relationship between man and God, creation and Creator, the saved and the Savior.  Jesus said: this is eternal life to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent.  To know, to become intimately familiar with.

As believers we are never alone, the Lord is with us and in us.  Jesus said abide in me and my words abide in you and I will abide in you.  We have fellowship with the Lord God.  Fellowship is what David is describing in Psalm 23  “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He make me to lie down in green pastures:  he lead me beside the still waters.  He restore my soul:  he lead me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”

There are times in life when we can feel alone but the truth is we are never alone.  If we have believed on Jesus as Lord then we belong to him.  I am not my own but I belong body and soul to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  John says here “And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”  As we continue in the word, in Gods great and precious promises for those who believe, as we grow in knowing him our joy becomes full.
