So great a Salvation!

Hebrews 2:1-4

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

Give more earnest heed to the things which we have heard?  Have you heard the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  Have you heard what God has spoken through his Son?

So great salvation;

which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord — Jesus teaching in the Gospels.  The doctrine that some who heard him were astonished at: “And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.” Mark 1:22

and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. — his disciples, the teaching in the epistles.

Have you heard the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and believed on Him?  If yes, then you ought to give more earnest heed to the things which you have heard and not neglect so great a salvation.

Being a Christian isn’t a religion.  Its not about applying scripture to our lives or memorizing verses or trying to obey God.  We do not war against flesh and blood and the enemy wants to make it all so complicated.    The apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”   How were their minds being corrupted? “For if he that come preach another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

If you have received so great a salvation, lets give earnest head to the things which we have heard.  How?  By simply obeying Jesus command “IF ye continue in my Word, then are ye my disciples indeed, and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”

Not memorizing scripture but simply getting to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he hath sent — continuing, without interruption, in his Word.  And as we do, we have this promise from the Lord:  “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Think about that.  When we spend time in the Word, the Holy Spirit, the Comforter is there teaching us.  He will bring all things to our remembrance, as Jesus said, whatsoever I have said unto you.  We have to first read Jesus words in order for the Spirit to bring them to our remembrance.  The simplicity that is in Christ ... continue in His Word.
