Love not the world.

1 John 2:14-17

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. As Jesus said, no man can serve two masters.  We cannot love the world and the things of the world and love God at the same time.

• Think of what the world seeks after, what the world loves?   The world is deceived and they’re chasing after a lie.   But for those who have believed on Jesus “The darkness is past, and the true light now shine.”

• In Christ, I have all that I need.  “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”  Why would I seek after the things of the world?  If I have seen the light, why would I walk in darkness any longer?

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  If we love the world and seek after the world then the love of the Father is not in us.  The proof is in the seeking.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.   Just look around, what are people seeking after?

• 2 Timothy 3 says “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” Does that sound familiar at all?

• Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.  What power?  The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believe; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17

• Jesus said, where your treasure is your heart will be also.  Who does your heart belong to?  Who is your first love?  Do you love the world and the things that are in the world?  Or do you love the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent?

And the world pass away, and the lust thereof: but he that do the will of God abide for ever.
