John 5:36-38
But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
Jesus performed many miracles. He healed the sick, made the blind to see, the lame to walk and even raised the dead to life. Jesus said “the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me”. The miracles that Jesus performed were evidence of who sent him and who he was and is — “the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me.”
At the very end of the Gospel of John the last two verses say “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
• We cannot believe on Jesus apart from his Word. “Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you” for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
• And what are we to believe about Jesus according to his Word, the Word of God? That the Father sent his only begotten Son into the World. And “that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
Its as simple as that. The simplicity that is in Christ. Have you believed on this Jesus?
