God has spoken unto us

Hebrews 1:1-2

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.  For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

• In these last days, God has spoken unto us — how? By his Son.  Jesus Christ — his only begotten Son.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” — what does it mean he “gave” his only begotten Son?  Not just that he sent his Son into the world but that he gave his only begotten Son.

• He gave his only begotten son to be the Sin offering.  The Father provided the lamb for the sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice for Sin. “Behold the lamb of God who take away the sins of the Word”

• “That whosoever believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

Herein is LOVE

The world talks of love, but “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  (1 John 4:10)

The world has a sin problem. As Jesus said “Whosoever sins is a servant of sin but if the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

• Sin separates man from a Holy God.

• Sin is the root cause of all problems in life.

• Sin leads to destruction — the state or fact of being destroyed : RUIN

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins.  He paid the ultimate price to deal with our Sin problem.  And this Jesus, whom God sent, whom he “hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high “.  —  God has spoken unto us by this Jesus, his only begotten Son.

What has God said?

Have you believed on Jesus that you might be saved?  What has God said through his Son?  Do you know?  Make no mistake — or rather, be not deceived — there is another Jesus that is being preached. The Spirit gives a warning to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2 “I know thy works” he says “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

Christ is our first love.  And we cannot know our first love, we cannot know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he hath sent, apart from his Word.  What has God said through his Son?  And as Jesus said :

Whosoever hear these sayings of mine, and do them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.  Matthew 7:24

• If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.  John 14:23

• If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.  John 15:7-8

You can spend your entire life doing good works for God — but if you don’t know his Word,  then you don’t know him.   And if you don’t know him,  then he will say “I never knew you”  “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”   Matthew 7:22-23

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son. — what has he said?  Do you know him?
