... and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:31-34

Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 6 and today we’re going to be reading verses 31 to 34 ...

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father know that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

• First, in Matthew 6 we looked at what Jesus said about “where our treasure is our heart will be also”.  That we cannot serve two Masters.  Either God is our Master or Mammon (the treasures of this world) is our Master.

• Then Jesus tells us to look at how our Heavenly Father cares for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field and he reminds us that we are much more valuable than they.

So today he says another “therefore”.  Therefore, in light of these truths take no thought to our life.  He says “for after all these things does the world seek”  What does the world seek, what do people run after in life?  Jesus assures us that our Heavenly Father knows.  He knows we have need of “all these things”.   So we are to take no thought for our life but instead, what are we to do?  “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness”.  How do we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness?  By continuing in his Word and as we do we are “transformed by the renewing of our minds”.  Jesus prayed in John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Take no thought for our life and do not seek after what the world seeks after.  Instead, seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all those things will be given to us by our Heavenly Father.
