A house built upon a rock.

Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 7, we’re going to be reading verses 21 thru 28 …

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that do the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore whosoever hear these sayings of mine, and do them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that hear these sayings of mine, and do them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

That’s a pretty sobering thought, especially if you’ve poured your life into good works for the Lord.  There’s a lot of people that profess to be Christians and they are working hard for the Lord, but the question is “do you know him”?  Jesus said in John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” After he says “I never knew you” he says in the next verse “Therefore whosoever hear these sayings of mine, and do them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.”   We cannot know Jesus apart from his Word, his teaching, his doctrine.

In 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 the apostle Paul says “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” How did there minds become corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ? “For if he that come preach another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

Are you listening to sound preaching of the Word and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ?  Or is your mind being corrupted from the simplicity that is of Christ?   Satan is a master at twisting the truth, he is subtle and not easily detected.  How can you be sure that you are not being deceived?

Get to know the Savior in His Word.  That’s the simplicity that is in Christ.  Jesus said in John 8:30-31 “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  The more we know him the more quickly we will recognize if someone is preaching another Jesus, another spirit or another gospel.
